I'm giving myself a little kick for not posting so much sooner than now about our trip. I'll be brief...and there are also pics to have a look at.
So, the day we are about to leave for Georgia, I start it all off with a nasty head cold. Go figure. But did my best to shake that off...and by time we left for Mexico a couple days later, I felt MUCH better, I think partly because of this Airbourne stuff I found down there or perhaps it was just a little blessing after looking so forward to getting away. Great..we are off! Until our descent into Cancun, all was marvelous. We were aboard this huge plane with our own personal tv's that you could watch numerous movies, tv, play poker even with other passengers. A couple of cocktails and all in all, a perfect flight! Until the ear pain started up....OMG...never have I had any problems at all with ear pain while flying but we are assuming because I was getting over the cold, this happened. Literally, the tears were pouring down my face trying to deal with this horrible pain. Ugh. It wasn't until a couple days later that I felt 'normal' again but at least the pain was less intense by time we reached the resort.
We arrived at Grand Sunset Princess Resort...and it truly was just beautiful. I would say the nicest resort I have been to although too large for my liking. But not complaining because it was gorgeous - so beautifully kept and well run. Our rooms were in the platinum section which was oceanview and close to the beach...but that also means the furthest away from the square where most of the restaurants, disco and shopping are. But there is the shuttle that comes regularly to get you around.
We spent the next week enjoying fabulous weather for the most part....beautiful views, the beach, the pool and pretty decent food too. Oh, and yes, of course, the many cocktails pool or beachside. Yum.
Some highlights...our trip to Playa Del Carmen. We took a cab with Mom and Dad into town and did some shopping on Fifth Avenue...took a break for cervezas....a little more shopping and then down to the beach to find a place for lunch. We stumbled across this rustic looking place that had great Mexican food and while eating, a band started up on the beach so afterwards, we spent a couple of hours sitting on the beach watching the band and people watching...it was a fabulous afternoon!
Another day, we took Sydney to Xcaret. We were all so looking forward to this day and unfortunately, it just didn't turn out the way we had hoped. First off, the sticker shock of getting into the place turned us off...but what can you do....so we sucked it up and off we went. Don't get me wrong, it was a fabulous ecological park but I think we agreed that XelHa's setup was better. The best part of that day was Syds swim with the dolphins. She had a blast and hopefully a memory she will always carry. We also enjoyed the caves, the many wildlife areas and a great snorkelling adventure in the underground river. Very cool. One of mine and Johnathons plans for this trip was to swim with the sharks here at Xcaret and their website led me to believe that the exhibit opened in December but it was barely under construction when we were there...big disappointment!
Other than that, we just enjoyed the resort...and the peace of being in a tropical wonderland with no cares or worries, being spoiled. Well, apart from missing my boys...but even then I knew they were happy, happy spending time in Georgia and being all loved on and spoiled as well.
And now...shhh...but it looks as if we may be heading on a last minute trip down south again. I have found some terrific deals and it's looking like we may take the boys to Cuba for a week over Easter. This is all pending approval from my new Manager. Wish us luck!
