A friend of mine shared her blog with me one day and I thought this really is a great idea! With most of our family and alot of our friends living all over, this is an ideal forum to share with you my thoughts and happenings with our family (my hubby, J-man and our three amazing children. Beautiful Sydney, who is now 16 and our two adorable rugrats, Nicholas-7 and Shane-3. And of course our Chrissy girl (golden retriever) and our menacing but lovable cats, Oreo and Pawsley.

Wasn't supposed to be dinner and a 'show' !!
Nicholas is doing well too....I can't count the times in a day that that child has me beaming. He is so interested in and has to know about EVERYTHING! The conversations he can carry amaze me....sometimes to the point where he is informing me about something....hehehe! And that's the truth. Anything to do with Outer Space is his big interest right now....and man, is he knowledgeable. And yes, he is four.
Sydney is winding up her school year - seventh grade!! She has been busy with exams and starting to get ready for her move to Greenville next month. She recently performed in her schools Spring recital....and I've asked her Mom if I could share this video clip she took while there. Enjoy.
A few weeks ago, Vicki let me know that there was a 'farewell' party for Doug, a co-worker....so I immediately wanted Johnathon to know so that I could plan to attend last Thursday. It has been a long while since I've had the opportunity to see my friends from work in a social setting. I so needed a good evening out....and I had such a great time! It was alot of fun....thanks Vicki, Di, Gary, Jamie and of course Doug....we were the last of the bunch....the die-hards! hehehe....good times!
So, a friend of ours, Scott, is leaving on Friday for Vegas and the World Series of Poker where he will be in at least a few of the tournaments. To send him off, I invited Shawn, Cheryl, Derek, Alison and of course Scott over for a bbq and poker on Friday evening. I made a couple of salads, grilled some shrimp, sausages and burgers for everyone......and when the meat was done, I took my big ceramic platter (which I love) and piled it on there....brought it in the house and was going to peek into the family room to let know everything was ready. Well, first I had to walk over Chrissy who would not move...only to have Oreo under my feet...and as I was saying everything is ready....BAM....tripped on Oreo....falling to the ground, trying to save the platter of food....fell on my left side which is now bruised, dropped the platter which smashed and of which a piece of it was still resting IN my arm and my finger was cut deep and bleeding heavily. Food everywhere! Just lovely. Now I am not one to tolerate pain well....I had to lay down immediately on the floor and most definitely NOT look at my bleeding finger. I caught a glimpse of my arm and that was enough for me. I'm very happy to say that I did not vomit, pass out....nothing. Okay...so do I sound drama queen enough for ya?? hehhee. Anyhow, Johnathon cleaned me up and stopped the bleeding the best he could....with Cheryls help. I insisted I would be fine and that going to the hospital wasn't necessary. Well, I was wrong and the next day we headed to the Bowmanville Clinic where the doctor let me know that that was a foolish move. Regardless, he and the wonderful nurse there cleaned me all up and assessed the situation....letting me know that since it has been more than 6 hours, he cannot completely stitch me up in case there is already an infection and in which case would be 'trapped' inside.....so he gave me a couple stitches. I asked if it would hurt and he said the stitches won't because you will be frozen but the needle will. I tried my best not to be a big baby....but was clearly unsuccessful as tears rolled down my face.....finger throbbing bleeding and my arm very sore....and now a needle!! Waahh! Anyhow, I am dealing....and waiting to feel better. Life is just a little more challenging for the next while.
Now, you may ask what happened with dinner....and as much as I don't want to say, I have to give kudos to my guests who cleaned everything up.....including inspecting all food and proceeded to still eat. Good thing I washed my floors that day!!! Now, that's love :0)
Oh, and when I made it downstairs to play finally....my brother came over and gave me a big hug :0) ... which then was followed by Derek and Scott and Shawn all giving me a group hug....almost breaking into the silly dance they used to do surrounding me....lol. They succeeded with getting a huge smile and laugh from me. Love u guys.
So, other than all that drama.....the weekend has been beautiful and filled with sunshine. I am becoming quite the left-handed gardener. In fact, I am just heading out now for some more flowers and herbs. I've been writing this on and off all day....done!

house full of sickies

We are letting Daddy sleep in this morning....it's been a long, stressful week for him with work. I think his plan today is to get the powder rooms floor tiled. A start in the right direction anyway. We have all these great ideas to get the house ready to be listed but definite lack of energy to get them done. Johnathon and I are about over our colds so no more excuses...time to get it done! We have another realtor coming for an evaluation Weds evening....and I am going to call another today and have them come out Weds afternoon. Wish us luck everyone, this is going to be a rough road I think. The houses in our area are just not selling. Now, if we could just decide between a brand new build or a re-sale home???!!! And if we do buy new, who wants to take us in while being built?? Any takers..?? Two cats, a dog, two boys, Johnathon and I....not too much to ask, is it?? hehhehe.
So, I was saying to Johnathon that we need to start writing down some of the things that come out of Nicholas' mouth. This child is just too funny! And of course, now that I want to share a story, nothing is coming to me except when we were out for lunch the other day with Vicki and Lisa. We were just at Dairy Queen and I was up at the counter ordering while the ladies watched the boys. Well, they have a great big jar type container on the floor that people donate money to for charity. Nicholas asked why this jar was there. Vicki told him that people give money so they can help needy children. So, Nicholas goes uh, well...I'm a child and I need that money for my piggy bank. LOL. Okay, not my best story but all I know is that Vicki and Lisa were laughing their butts off. Too cute.
For my Canadian friends and family....have a fun, safe Victoria Day long weekend (albeit a soggy one)...and everyone else enjoy their weekends as well.

home sweet home

We are now home after a wonderful visit to Deb and Bills as well as some time in Montgomery, AL, while picking up Sydney. And, of course, the flights couldn't be without their drama ;0) The flight down was almost perfect....all except for the fact that Nicholas has a terrifying time with public washrooms. I managed to get him into the one with me at Duty Free before crossing to the airport....although he did go screaming out once it flushed. Poor little guy is just petrified of the sound of toilets...ugh. Any advice out there, I would be happy to hear it. All was well after that....until we were on the plane and after two failed attempts while in the planes washroom (screaming back to the seat), Nicholas finally fell asleep and unfortunately, peed his pants while asleep. He was mortified when he woke up....poor guy. So, on the way home.....no drinks after we left Aunt Debos and he was just fine....made it all the way home without having to go. Phew! The drama on the way home was Shane, who is usually the perfect little passenger. I think now that he is Mr Independent and gets around so well, that is what he thinks he can be doing on a crowded plane. Uh...no. All was well in the end though and he finally drifted off in Daddys arms for a nap the rest of the way. So, our trip. Well, we spent the first two days/nights in Georgia at Deb and Bills. Mom was already there and it was nice to spend that time with them...as always. Thursday, Johnathon and I headed out to Montgomery to pick Syd up at school and spend the evening with her. It was nice to have the opportunity to do so and we were able to walk around her school and meet her best friend, Kayla. Around 8ish, we dropped her off at home and Johnathon and I had the night to ourselves (the boys stayed back with the family).....we opted out of going out anywhere and enjoyed the time alone at our hotel....and even slept in until 930!!!! Friday, Johnathon and I kept busy while waiting on Syd to finish school...picked her up and off to Georgia we went. Now, there is a side story here as well. Deb had called us earlier in the day to let us know that Nicholas was having a reaction to some mosquito bites he had gotten....so we all agreed to give him childrens benadryl and put some hydrocortisone cream on his ears that she was describing to me as 'Dumbo' ears. Well, I thought that was an exaggeration until we pulled up in the drive and there was my poor little munchkin with yep....Dumbo ears. Literally. Now, Nicholas has had bad reactions to bites in the past and the benadryl always helps...which it did again this time overnight....thank goodness! Now that we are home, I have called Dr Albert and we are going to discuss it with her next Wednesday. I have to admit that I really am kicking myself that we didn't take a picture!! I'm certain any future girlfriend would love a look some day...hehehe! ;0)Saturday, Deb and Bill had a backyard deck party planned for John's (a friend) birthday. It was fabulous...the rained held off and Uncle Bill was King of the Grill and Smoker....served up some fabulous chicken and smoked pork = YUM! Deb, Bill, Mom and Katie are all leaving this week for an Alaskan cruise along with alot of the guests there Saturday...needless to say, they are all pumped up about it! Syd and Johnathon went most of the day undefeated in the ladder toss game (or whatever it was called)...but Aunt Debo brought them down a notch later in the afternoon! hehehe. Their new neighbours joined in the fun later in the night and all in all, a fun filled day. Sunday, we all were off to Cracker Barrel for brunch (a must while there) before Johnathon took Sydney back home. We got in late last night (Monday)....and as much as we would have liked the visit to be longer, it was great to be home in our comfy bed again.
